Guide for Training A Horse for The Race
It can be fun training your horse for a race but you need to be extremely patient. Your dedication will give you good results within a short time. Here we discuss how horses are trained for races.
Choose the right horse
Different types of horses are meant for different types of races whilesome horses cannot participate in races. So, you should first choose the right horse for racing. Thoroughbred is very common as racing horses. You can choose Arabian or Standardbreds as well.
Know the horse’s behaviour and health
You should have a good understanding of the horse’s behaviour. This will help you to train the horse easily and choose the way you are going to train them. Some horses are friendly towards humans and other animals; whereas, some are not. You should find out about the behaviour of your horse.
The horse should be in good health so that it can bear the stress of training. Otherwise, the horse may get seriously injured during the training sessions. Before you start the training, you should ensure that the horse is well-groomed.
This training will ensure that the horse approaches humans in a friendly manner. After this training, the horses won’t show any aggressive behaviour towards you or any other person. You should also teach commands like ‘stop’ and ‘turn’ at this stage.
You need to teach the ground training technique ‘longing’. Teaching the horse this technique will allow flexibility in training. You will be able to train your horse in any way without incurring much trouble.
Horses should be trained with the saddle when they are three years old. They should learn to be ridden. You should place a saddle on their back and train them and remember to warm up the horse before the training. That way the horse won’t feel exhausted.
Jog the horse
You should jog the horse for three to six miles daily. It should be done at a comfortable speed which will help to build the stamina of the horse.
Add faster miles
Once you know that the stamina of your horse has improved, you should go for faster miles. Add more miles to your daily routine and see if you can improve the performance of your house.
Hire a local trainer
No matter how well you take care of your horses, you should hire a local trainer before the actual event. That way your horse will be able to learn the new skills quickly and more efficiently.
You should follow all these steps in training and preparing your horse for the race. You should not use ‘punishment’ as a tool for training. With patience, dedication and hard work, you can well prepare your horse for the event and win the race as well.
While training, you should consider the health of the horse. You should prevent any type of injury during training.
